Seeking individual with strong background in selecting solder methods and materials to bond laser diodes to a heat sink in a packaging enclosure for high-powered semiconductor lasers.
Functions:
Perform Finite Element Analysis (FEA), Failure Modes & Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Thermal Analysis for solder joint strength in laser diode packaging.
Ensure that semiconductor diodes are aligned in the heat sink, verify that solder methods and materials allow for proper alignment and future reliability.
Experiment with different materials and select the best-fit solution based on acceptable heat dissipation, low deformation during long-term operation, acceptable thermal expansion and metallurgical bond between diode and mounting substrate.
Requirements:
Must be able to determine the methods, materials and techniques for bonding laser diodes to heat sinks in laser enclosures.
Advanced degree (M.S., Ph.D. or equivalent) in Physics, Optical Engineering, or similar.

years relevant experience in a laser diode packaging environment working with III-V semiconductor materials.
